The 55th Engineers' day was celebrated by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre at its Institutional Complex Jammu which was attended by large numbers of engineers from various departments and organizations. This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 161st birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
On this occasion Shri Shiv Anant Tayal, IAS, Managing Director, JPDCL Power Development Department, J&K Govt., Jammu was the Chief Guest.
At the outset, Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE, Chairman of IEI, Jammu Centre presented the Welcome Address.
Rich Tributes were paid by Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Former Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu Centre in which he highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like Austerity, Integrity, Competence and Discipline.
Further, on this occasion Er. P. B. Khajuria, FIE was honoured by the Chief Guest with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). He was presented with a Gold Medallion as a mark of respect.
Chief Guest also presented R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er Ajay Kumar Sharma,FIE for presenting the Best Technical Paper Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal to Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE for presenting 3rd best technical paper during the year 2021 - 22. The Chief Guest also honoured Er. P K Nanda, MIE; Er. B. L .Rawal; MIE Er. Ranjeev Sawhney; MIE; Er. Vijay Sharma, MIE and Er. Joy Ganjoo, AMTIE with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2021 - 2022.
In addition to above first issue of 20th Volume of quarterly News Letter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the Chief Guest in presence of Editorial Board comprising of Dr. Sanjay Khar, Er. Anik Gupta, Er. Samir Sharma, Er. Sunil Seth, Er. Ajay Sharma & Er. C P Sharma.
Chief Guest highlighted role of engineers in the development of the country especially remarkable progress achieved in the space sector, chip set designing and modern artificial intelligence based applications to prepare the country to make huge impact on the world map. He acknowledged the role of J&K Engineers both public and private sector in making land mark progress towards the development of the union territory. He also sought cooperation from the institution in creating a techno vibrant environment in Jammu region so that dearth of skilled technically sound manpower is addressed and void felt by public and private sector are addressed.
The inaugural session was followed by a technical session which was chaired by Er. Vinod Malhotra;FIE; Former Development Commissioner, Town Planning, Jammu in which 05 nos papers were presented by Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Er. Ranjeev Sawhney,MIE; Er. Joy Ganjoo, AMTIE & Er. Akash Dusgotra,AMIE, on the theme topic "Smart Engineering for a Better World".
Er. C P Sharma, MIE; Honorary Secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the function and presented vote of thanks to the august engineers, guests, line departments and media persons for making this function a success.
